Car Time by Autumn
When we go on a road trip, we always have certain things we do to entertain ourselves in the car. We don't do individual electronics, but instead, we try to use the car time to grow closer to each other and God as a family. Here is what a typical day in the car would look like in our family:
Early o'clock: We hit the road and put our destination into the GPS. As soon as we get to a straight stretch we pray a rosary together, asking God and Mary to keep us safe as we travel.
After Rosary: After the rosary, some of us may drop off and go back to sleep. Once everyone is awake we eat a breakfast of bananas and cereal bars (our usual breakfast when traveling).
Throughout the Day: For entertainment, our family loves to listen to audiobooks or read aloud. Here are three of our favorite wholesome series to listen to in the car:
The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S Lewis
The Little Britches Series by Ralph Moody
The Wingfeather Saga by Andrew Peterson
Besides the audiobooks, we also like to make a family music playlist to listen to. Some of the artists we put on the playlist this time were:
For King and Country
The Oh Hellos
Tobymac
We Are Messengers and
Switchfoot
In the Afternoon: Around 3 in the afternoon (which is the hour of mercy, since it's when Jesus died) we like to pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet and listen to an episode of Fr. Mike Schmitz's Bible In A Year podcast.
All of these things help us in the car. I hope that this post may have given you some ideas on how to spend time together with your family on your next road trip.
There's nothing quite like Paul and Sparky singing "Take Me Home Country Roads" whenever we were (and were not) driving through West Virginia
