St. Clare of Assisi by Gianna
August 11 is the feast day of St. Clare.
Who was St. Clare?
Clare was born into a wealthy family in Assisi, Italy a very long time ago. One time she heard St. Francis of Assisi preach. He talked about God and how we should simplify our lives. She decided she wanted to be like St. Francis and live for the poor. She ran away in the night because her parents didn’t want her to become a nun. She made her own order of nuns called the “Poor Clares.” Clare selflessly served the poor until she died. Today there are still Poor Clare Nuns who serve the poor, thanks to St. Clare of Assisi.
I like St. Claire because trying to simplify our lives and help the poor is basically what we missionaries are trying to do.
Here is a cool story about St. Clare:
One of my favorite stories about St. Clare is how she defended her monastery with the Eucharist. One time the convent was attacked by soldiers. Clare took the monstrance with the Eucharist inside of it and held it up to the soldiers. Light came out of it and scared the men. They ran away. St. Clare had saved the day with God's help.
I like how Jesus, in the Eucharist, is always helping people. With God all things are possible!
I hope you are going to try to find more out about St. Clare for all the stuff I don't know about, or didn't write about. I also hope St. Clare inspired you by this blogpost or already has.
