Why We are Purging Our House by Cameron
In this blog post, I wanted to talk about why we are currently purging our house.
Throughout my life, we have had probably five big purges. What that means to us kids (to have a purge) is basically exactly that. We purge each room by taking everything out, wiping everything down, and donating the majority of what was in that room.
On the first day of this purge, Mom reminded us about why we were doing all this.
First of all, we want to simplify our life and join foreign missions.
And if that wasn't God's will for us, then we would really like to move to farmland or go roadschooling in an RV. And for all those options, it would mean selling (or renting out) our house. This means that we would need to clean it really, really well.
And if we aren't able to do either, we want to simplify our lives because we can sometimes have trouble managing our things, which leads to family drama. Also, when we simplify our lives, we are free to have more fun doing the things that we like to do. Most of all, we can minister and fellowship more instead of cleaning up messes.
What do we do with the things we purge? We donate them to thrift stores that will use the proceeds to help the poor and needy because we find that they can sell them for more money than we can make at a garage sale. Or, we will see if any friends who are going through hard times can benefit from any of the stuff.
This bible verse is what we try to make the theme of our simplifying:
Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to [the] poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” Matthew 19:21
So that is why we are currently purging our house. Please pray for us, as not all the work is the most fun ever. (i.e, spray painting toilets, purging the garage in the heat, picking up dog droppings, etc:).
2015 purge (the first): us driving donations (I am behind the exercise ball)
2019 purge: The girls' room
Some donations from 2019
At the donation center with more donations
Clothes that we were giving to another big family
The boys' room now (note: the dog bed has been sinced purged also because he sleeps under the bed!)
