Scripture Time by Cameron
In this blog post, I am going to tell you about what my family does for Scripture reading. It started one Lent, three or four years ago. We had decided to have thirty minutes of Scripture every day, then share what we read, and then pray a Divine Mercy Chaplet at three o'clock. We kept doing that after Lent and have been doing it ever since.
Usually around two-thirty, we will do fifteen to thirty minutes of Scripture, then discuss. Sometimes we will do Lectio Divina, which means "praying with Scripture." We will read a passage in the Bible, reflect, then repeat the passage, then share what we thought. I personally enjoy Scripture time mostly because I feel that that is my quiet time with prayer and Scripture every day.
Sometimes when we are on the go, we will listen to Fr. Mike Schmitz's Bible in a year podcast. He reads different sections of the bible and then talks about it on the podcast. In that way, he ends up reading the whole Bible in a year. Each "Episode" is usually around twenty to twenty-five minutes.
I like hearing the readings and then hearing Fr. Mike's meditation. He also reads in a way that is very easy to understand. I feel really happy and engaged when he says he's praying for all of us that listen to the podcast, and asks us to pray for him.
I hope that if you aren't already reading your Bible (and that's great if you are!), that you might want to start reading it every day now.
Me with a back-up bible (my bible is currently awaiting return from a goat farm - true story!)
